About

Our Story

The story of Penelope Dee is a collaboration between two friends. In January 2016 the ideas started flowing while at CHA in Anaheim, California. By May that year the dream became a reality with the surreal moment when our first paper range rolled off the printing press. Glenda Viljoen, an icon in the Scrapbooking industry, designs the paper with co-ordinating products while Lyn van den Berg with Trocraft manufactures and distributes the product.

The naming of the brand has its own story…

It all started when Glenda was born. Her mom wanted to name her Penelope Ethel, the latter after her late grandmother. Her ever practical dad persuaded her mom that Glenda Lee would be more suitable. So, in honour of her mom, she used Penelope — exchanged the ‘L’ in Lee for ‘D’ for Dad. Hence the name Penelope Dee.

The watercolour roses used on Penelope Dee branding combine her father’s love of roses and her love for watercolour, honouring their memories.

Penelope Dee has grown in popularity locally in South Africa. It was always a hope that we could export our product. It is now available internationally — and this is just the most exciting event that could happen to us.
